The Ultimate Packing Checklist for International Travel
Good packing is less about cramming everything in and more about never having to think twice at the airport. Here is the checklist our travel desk hands every first-time international traveller.
Documents first
- Passport (valid for at least 6 months beyond your return date)
- Visa approval / e-visa printout
- Travel insurance policy and emergency contact numbers
- Hotel and flight confirmations, saved offline
- A photocopy of your passport stored separately from the original

- A universal travel adapter — check the plug type for your destination before you fly
- A portable power bank for long transit days
- Prescription medicines in their original packaging, with a doctor's note if needed
- A lightweight daypack for city walks and day trips
Small things people forget
A spare phone charging cable, a printed copy of your itinerary, local currency in small denominations for your first few hours, and a reusable water bottle. None of these feel essential until you're standing at the arrivals gate without them.
Finally, pack light. Most travellers overpack for a trip they never fully unpack — a capsule wardrobe of mix-and-match layers almost always beats a full suitcase.
